# Apple Intelligence gets a China launch date, minus the new Siri

Apple Intelligence is finally heading to China, more than two years after its debut elsewhere, and it is arriving in its older, less ambitious form.

Apple confirmed the launch on its Chinese newsroom site, as [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1023974/apple-intelligence-china-ios-27-3) reported via MacRumors. Jay Peters writes that the features show up first in an iOS 27.3 beta on November 4th, with the full release planned for December.

## What actually shipped

The China version gets the first-generation toolkit: notification summaries, live translation, writing tools for rewriting and proofreading, visual intelligence, and object removal in Photos. The new AI-powered Siri is not part of it.

The interesting part is the partner. Apple says it worked with Alibaba to support the Qwen chatbot in some experiences, which looks like the Chinese counterpart to the ChatGPT integration Apple shipped in 2024.

## Why it took this long

Regulators approved Apple Intelligence in China in July, and Reuters reported in August that Apple had trained a separate LLM specifically for the Chinese market. So this is less one global AI product and more a regional fork: same features on the surface, a different model and a different chatbot partner underneath.

For anyone building on top of on-device AI, that is the pattern to watch. The feature list stays the same from country to country while the model behind it changes per market, and app behavior can quietly differ depending on where the phone was sold.
